As a graphic designer, I was given the exciting task of creating custom artwork that would set apart a new Lidl Store from its competitors. The marketing department's objective was to showcase how, despite being a German-based international company, Lidl sources many of its products from Ireland.
Though my marketing role typically does not require bespoke illustrations, my digital illustration expertise led me to propose creating artwork for the store's pillars. The previous Angier Street Lidl store had displayed bespoke, illustrated artwork of a medieval structure visible through the store's glass floor, which the board members were delighted with.
To begin, I presented two moodboards and mockups that offered creative options for the director. The first option featured illustrated landmarks of Dublin, while the second option was a vibrant fruit and vegetable pattern that would complement Lidl's regular creative style.
The creative director was thrilled with the idea of incorporating illustrations into the design, and so I began creating numerous landmarks. After further discussions, we decided to narrow it down to landmarks in North Dublin City.
Once the artwork was printed, we found that the colours were too vibrant. To solve this, I muted the colours and rearranged the landmarks on each pillar to create 11 unique bespoke pieces.
Overall, the artwork was very well received, and the board members were thrilled with the final result.
